Sunny Bedroom
 transitional

Does your second-story bedroom feel dark and claustrophobic because of a low ceiling and tiny windows?

Perhaps you need to follow the example shown here and raise the roof—literally. Existing 5-foot-high outer walls of this master bedroom now extending to 8 feet! Large windows providing expansive views of a lush backyard. Skylights bringing in natural light while offering a tree top perspective of the yard.

This skylight treatment is unusual in that the windows are relatively small, but the walls of the skylight well are flared. This allows for maximum views with minimum heat loss. The small awning windows above the bed provide light and fresh air to the master bedroom, yet maintain privacy. A new master bath and closet were also a part of this renovation.
